In order to realise all the advantages that LEDs present over traditional supplemental lighting, an LED luminaire must excel in four major areas.

Cutting-edge LED technology

The use of LEDs developed in cooperation with manufacturers to obtain the most efficient devices available for producing light at optimal photosynthetically active wavelengths. LED technology is under constant development and is allowing us to provide higher light intensities without compromising our 40 % saving in electricity consumption.

Efficient optics

The design of the optical system must minimise losses within the luminaire as well as maximise targeting efficiency of the desired illumination area.

Surplus heat recovery

The function of the surplus heat recovery system is two-fold: it must collect and transport the heat energy generated in the luminaire for redistribution where needed as efficiently as possible, and just as importantly, it must provide adequate cooling of the LEDs to prolong component lifetime and ensure optimal light output efficiency.

Integration into the greenhouse setting

The biggest challenge regarding implementation into a professional greenhouse setting is overcoming the barriers of integration. A LED system installed in a greenhouse interacts with all parameters of the climate, including temperature, CO2 level, screens etc. In contradiction with general perception, it is therefore not possible to sell a standalone product. At Fionia Lighting we develop an LED greenhouse system, not solely an LED luminaire.
